ABOUT KAYLA

Kayla J. Blackburn was born in Derby and moved to Blackpool during her childhood, which is where she is still lives today with her husband and pets. She holds a BA in English Literature, Creative Writing, and Practice, and an MA in Creative Writing, both awarded by Lancaster University. She is also a qualified teacher.

Kayla was the winner of the 2021 Literary Lancashire Award in the Poetry Category for her poem 'The Begonia Bush'.

She was also highly commended in the 2025 Hive Young Writers Competition for her poem 'Anxiety Arcade'. 

​

Her debut pamphlet, Preservation, published by Invisible Hand Press in 2022.

 

She is currently working on both her debut novel and her next poetry collection.
